Job Description

Summary & Purpose:
As a member of Japan R&D Leadership Team, the Director of Portfolio Management is responsible for leading R&D portfolio prioritization together with Head of Japan R&D. The Director is also responsible to develop R&D resource planning. Portfolio prioritization and resource planning is expected to deliver an efficient and innovative approach, making full use of the latest technology. The Director is responsible for building talent pipeline in his/her team, as well as in whole Japan R&D organization.

Major Responsibilities:
[1] R&D Portfolio Prioritization Management:
・Develop R&D pipeline portfolio plan based on inputs from Japan disease area strategy teams.
・Deliver and ensure cross Therapeutic Area(TA)s pipeline portfolio prioritization, with having financial input from R&D Finance controller and scientific input from Head of Clinical Sciences.
・Lead Japan R&D portfolio priority discussion together with Japan R&D Head, in alignment with global R&D priority and planning.
・Participate in decision-making governance such as the Strategic Review Board
・Contribute strategic input to governance and management reviews including; scenario assessment, trade-off implications and evaluation/assessment of capital investment opportunities, from innovative planning perspectives.
・Loss of Exclusivity (LOE) estimation by ensuring to update IP information in collaboration with Japan/US patent attorney.
・Estimate LOE period for all Japan portfolio.
・Primary process owner for R&D governance
・Develop and maintain R&D and/or pipeline project governance body charters
・Facilitate and coordinate project governance as decision support leader to make clear and timely decision-making for project
・Act as primary representative of Japan R&D on Japan Local Operation company’ annual planning schedule

[2] R&D Resources Planning Management:
・Develop year-beginning of annual demand and capacity planning.
・Input, update annual demand and capacity planning and lead R&D SLT and LT to facilitate resource management and/or task allocation.
・Manage and oversee all hiring management/tracking on Japan R&D organization
・Discuss multi-year talent development plan including individual moving and/or short term assignment.

[3] Talent pipeline:
・Responsible for assessing and developing internal Japan R&D talent, identifying gaps in the talent pipeline, and hiring key roles to meet future needs.

Requirements

・5 years minimum of pharma industry experiences in Project/Portfolio management for development pipeline
・MBA or equivalent experiences/capability
・Evidence of leading innovation
・Sstrategic thinking and contingency planning
・Strong communication in Japanese and English
・Influential abilities, strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills
